TRAINING

July will be a very busy month on the Plain with 4 major Armoured Exercises starting with the Land Warfare Centre Armoured Division Exercise FIRST VIEW on the 2nd & 3rd of July with Challenger tanks training on the Imber and Larkhill ranges.

 

This is followed by a Squadron from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment with Challenger 2 tanks, 1st Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment Armoured Infantry Company in Warrior AFV’s, and an armoured engineer squadron from 26 Engineer Regiment conducting low level training across all areas.

 

The next major exercise will be the Land Warfare Centre Ex LIONS STRIKE from the 14th to 17th July using the Imber and Larkhill dry training areas for the largest armoured exercise in the programme. The third major exercise will be Ex CROSSED CANNONS 21st to 25th July when 3 of the Royal School of Artillery courses combine for their largest training exercise of the year during which AS90 and Light Gun live firing takes place.

 

Finally the Land Warfare Centre Armoured Division will deploy their Challenger 2 tanks across the whole Plain for Ex SABRES THRUST 28th to 31st July and will be joined by the Brigade Recce CVRTs for their final exercise BADGERS STRESS.

 

East Midlands University Officers Training Corps will be based in Westdown Camp for the first half of the month on their annual camp.

Late firing on Larkhill Ranges on: 02nd, 03rd, 08th, 10th, 15th, 17th, 22nd, 24th, 26th, 29th, 31st.

Live firing on Salisbury Plain (East): Nil

AS90 Firing from Tilshead, Chitterne, Shrewton triangle: Nil

Non-firing days on Larkhill/Westdown Danger Area: 05th, 06th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th.

Non firing days on Bulford Ranges: 05th, 06th, 19th, 20th, 26th, 27th.

Mon, Wed & Fridays – Bulford Ranges are live until 1800hrs for operational training.

Complaints about Firing Noise should be made to (01980) 620819.

 

Upcoming Major Exercises. During exercises access may be restricted on Larkhill Ranges and in the Chitterne – Shrewton – Tilshead Triangle north of the B390.

 

Alpha & Alpha 1 crossing. During July the track between these points will be closed for maintenance to the recently laid surface. Dates to be confirmed.

 

ACCESS

Access to SPTA is regulated by Salisbury Plain Military Lands, Bulford, Larkhill and Imber Range Byelaws. Always comply with local signs and flags. Rights of way in Range Danger Areas are closed when red flags are flying.

Imber Ranges. The public are excluded except when the roads are specifically opened. Planned open dates for 2014 are as follows:

Christmas & New Year 1600 Thurs 18 Dec to 0800 Mon 05 Jan.

1. Even when roads are open the village and buildings remain out of bounds to the public.

2. Dates may change if operational training needs dictate.

 

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO REDUCE CRIME ON SALISBURY PLAIN?

If a crime is taking place e.g: hare coursing call 999 and do not challenge the offenders.

Report suspicious activity to PLAINWATCH (01980 674700) or PLAINWATCH@landmarc.mod.uk. The more information received the better e.g. time, place, vehicle registration, description of individuals and vehicles.
