Training in November will reduce slightly following a busy October.
4 – 8 November. Support Weapons School Ex FIRST STRIKE will use the whole Plain.
11 – 25 November. Exercise WESSEX STORM for 1st Battalion The Grenadier Guards battle group involving 800 troops and 140 vehicles. They will train in the light role using the Army Weapons Effect System and will have an infantry company from the Omani Army conducting joint training. The battle group will use wheeled armoured vehicles and a company of Warrior armoured infantry vehicles. Disruption during this period should be minimal however there will be some air activity both by day and night involving attack and support helicopters.
21 – 29 November the three main courses at the Royal School of Artillery will conduct live firing with 155mm AS90, 105mm Light Guns and Multi Launch Rocket System which culminates in Ex CROSSED CANNONS in early December.

With winter approaching drivers are advised to take extra care when approaching tank crossings as there will be mud clearance parties and mechanical sweepers operating.

Military Flying – Helicopters, Hercules (C130) and fast jets may be active at any time. Fox Covert &
Everleigh Dropping Zones will be active for most of the period.

Upcoming Major Exercises. During the following exercises access may be restricted on Larkhill Ranges and in the Chitterne – Shrewton – Tilshead Triangle north of the B390.

Access to SPTA is regulated by Salisbury Plain Military Lands, Bulford, Larkhill and Imber Range Byelaws. Always comply with local signs and flags. Rights of way in Range Danger Areas are closed when red flags are flying.
This Newsletter is published up to 6 weeks before the event and changes may occur. Access timings for the next week can be found on the SPTA Walks Line: (01980) 67 4763.
Larkhill Ranges. No firing is planned for: 2, 3, 9, 10, 23, 24, 30 November.
Note: Due to the risk of “cook off” from unexploded ordnance the range is closed during fires.
Bulford Ranges. No firing is planned for: 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 30 November.
Winter Firing Times: Winter firing times from 01 Nov 13 are:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 0830 – 1700.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday: 0830 – 2100.
Sunday: 0830 – 1300.


Imber Ranges. The public are excluded except when the roads are specifically opened.
Service of Remembrance. The Remembrance Service is on Saturday 9th Nov starting at 1100 (with access to and from Warminster only). The convoy will move from the Warminster Imber Road barrier (VP2) at 1015. Access is only permitted for the church service.
Provisional Christmas and New Year Dates. Planned dates are: 1600 20 Dec 13 – 0800 6 Jan 14.
1. Even when roads are open the village and buildings remain out of bounds to the public.
2. Dates may change if operational training needs dictate.

What Can You Do to Reduce Crime on Salisbury Plain?
