Music In Flight Details : Friday 24th July 2009 – 7.30pm to 10.00pm
(Gates open at 4.00pm)
Music in Flight is a magical experience with the London Pro Arte Orchestra, conducted by Murray Stewart, and the fanfare trumpeters of the Prince of Wales’s Division Band playing classical music, together with the Romsey Choral Society, whilst a variety of aircraft and formation teams perform breathtaking displays in the sky above, all carefully synchronised with the music.
What you hear and what you see are fused together in an unforgettable combination of elegance, emotion and sheer breathtaking spectacle.
The spectacle is provided by some of the best display items to be seen in our skies this year: the Aerostars, the biggest civilian aerobatic display team in Europe, are joined by Team Guinot, the Great War Display Team and the Royal Navy’s Swordfish. Fans of WW2 warbirds can melt to the strains of Gone With The Wind to accompany a Curtis Kittyhawk and the rasp of the Spitfire’s Rolls Royce Merlin with Alwyn’s Festival March. A quiet contrast is provided by Gerry Sturgess, whose K21 glider appears for the twelfth year in succession.
And no Music in Flight would be complete without the incomparable Frenchman Christian Moullec in his microlite with the biggest formation display of all: a flock of geese and giant cranes which clearly understand his encouragement as they follow his lead!
The concert goes from daylight to darkness with a night glow by hot air balloons, a night descent by the Red Devils free fall team and a gigantic firework finale.
Status Quo Concert : Saturday 25th July 2009 -7.30pm to 10.30pm
(Gates open 4.00pm)
The concept is big band, big stage, lights, sound and screen ….. a big evening – very different to the timeless grace of Music in Flight.
A concert performed by this legendary band is not to be missed. Status Quo usually sell out whenever they perform.
Focal Point were the first band signed by the Apple label and performed at our festival in 2007. They return by popular demand as the Supporting Band.
The evening concludes with a spectacular firework display.
