There have been recent reports with concerns from members of public about off road driving on the Salisbury Plain and the use of the byways around the Tidworth and Ludgershall area. There are many guidelines for safety purposes while using the Salisbury Plain which have been set out by the MOD but our everyday traffic regulations and laws still need to be upheld; vehicles using the Salisbury Plain are required to be taxed, have a valid MOT and insured.
Due to this Amesbury Neighbourhood Team have carried out a Rural Operation targeting off road vehicles over the last two weeks. Last night (08/06/24), with assistance from Salisbury Neighbourhood Team, five officers proactively targeted hotspots on the Salisbury Plain where vehicles have been reported causing a nuisance. On this occasion officers are very happy to report that over the four hour operation that only one vehicle required words of advice but all other vehicles witnessed using the plain were doing so legally.
Due to the continued reports we would like to take the time to remind those to use the Salisbury Plain legally and considerately especially around livestock and residential properties; the Salisbury Plain should be enjoyed by everyone.
Please read and follow the Good Practice Guidelines set out on Green Laning Good Practice Guide 2020 for further information.
