December will see a significant reduction in training on the Plain.
1 – 6 Dec. The Defence Logistic School will run their final exercise TIMBER TRUSS during which large convoys of heavy vehicles will transit most major routes across Salisbury Plain increasing military traffic at tank crossings on the A360, A345 and A338.
2 – 5 Dec. The Royal School of Artillery’s three main courses will complete their final tactical dry training and live firing on Exercise CROSSED CANNONS from which will include 105 Light Gun and 155mm AS90 firing. Noise levels will be kept to the minimum level.
16 – 19 Dec. Land Warfare Centre Armoured Infantry course will runs exercise BLACK ADDER with a company of Warrior armoured fighting vehicles using Imber and Larkhill range areas.
20 Dec to 6 Jan training levels will drop to a very low level allowing the Imber Range roads to be opened.
With winter approaching drivers are advised to take extra care when approaching tank crossings as there will be mud clearance parties and mechanical sweepers operating.

Military Flying – Helicopters, Hercules (C130) and fast jets may be active at any time. Fox Covert & Everleigh Dropping Zones will be active for most of the period.

Upcoming Major Exercises. During the following exercises access may be restricted on Larkhill Ranges and in the Chitterne – Shrewton – Tilshead Triangle north of the B390.

11 Jun 14 – 25 Jun 14 Ex WESSEX STORM
Access to SPTA is regulated by Salisbury Plain Military Lands, Bulford, Larkhill and Imber Range Byelaws. Always comply with local signs and flags. Rights of way in Range Danger Areas are closed when red flags are flying.
This Newsletter is published up to 6 weeks before the event and changes may occur. Access timings for the next week can be found on the SPTA Walks Line: (01980) 67 4763.
Larkhill Ranges. No firing is planned for: 1, 14, 15, 19 Dec to 5 Jan 14.
Note: Due to the risk of “cook off” from unexploded ordnance the range is closed during fires.
Bulford Ranges. No firing is planned for: 7, 8, 14 Dec to 5 Jan 14.
Winter Firing Times: Winter firing times from 01 Nov 13 are:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 0830 – 1700.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday: 0830 – 2100. Sunday: 0830 – 1300.
Bulford & Warminster Small Arms ranges closed – 14 Dec 13 – 5 Jan 14 inclusive
Larkhill/Westdown (Centre) closed 19 Dec 13 – 5 Jan 14 inclusive
Imber Ranges. The public are excluded except when the roads are specifically opened.
Imber Christmas and New Year Dates. Planned dates are: 1600 20 Dec 13 – 0800 6 Jan 14.
1. Even when roads are open the village and buildings remain out of bounds to the public.
2. Dates may change if operational training needs dictate.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO REDUCE CRIME ON SALISBURY PLAIN?
